BPI committee meeting "Digitalization": Committee members visit CompuGroup Medical in Berlin

Digitalization in the healthcare sector is a perennial topic of public debate. All players in the German healthcare system are affected by the system errors, patients who struggle with digital formats or service providers for whom the entire "system" does not work.

One example: the e-prescription. The nationwide introduction is imminent and the infrastructure for doctors, pharmacies and all other players is not in place. There are daily reports of problems with data transmission, including total software failure. In addition, there are medical practices that are not yet connected to the telematics infrastructure at all. The rollout of the e-prescription is symptomatic of the status of the digital transformation process and highlights other projects in the healthcare sector. But they do exist, the innovative eHealth solutions. The "Digital Future" committee of the German Pharmaceutical Industry Association (BPI) was able to see this for itself at its most recent meeting with a visit to CompuGroup Medical (CGM). The company has been developing technologies for eHealth management in the healthcare system to network the various service providers for decades. "Convincing digital solutions have been developed, but there is a lack of synchronized implementation," comments Natascha de Raad. Nevertheless, the Federal Ministry of Health has announced a total of 14 major legislative projects for the fall and spring of 2023/24. Among others on the agenda: a digital law and the establishment of a digital agency as well as a health data utilization law.
